This design is based on a 1940s denim jacket. It features a single button at the top of the front, a zipper running from below, and another button at the very bottom. This design was necessary due to the zipper specifications of the time. The zipper opens and closes by sliding a slider over the zipper element. Early zipper sliders only served the primary purpose of locking the zipper element together, so even when the zipper was closed, pulling on the fabric on either side could cause the zipper to slide open. This led to the evolution of the slider, which typically features a small tab built into the slider that catches on the zipper element to secure it in place. Pulling the slider tab lifts the tab, unlocking the zipper and allowing it to move freely. This product uses an older zipper, so the top button in particular retains its important function, just like the vintage model it was based on.
