The inspiration comes from traditional tattoos from the Philippines, built around two simple motifs: a sun and a plant. Around them, we created an arrangement of dots and lines that reminds me of some of my favourite indigo bandannas from the 1920s.The colours were just as important as the design itself. The aniline black was inspired by black bandannas from the late 1800s, while the beige was chosen to recreate the soft, muted appearance of old discharge-printed fabrics. They’re subtle details, but together they give the bandanna a warmth that feels familiar and fresh.I love vintage textiles, but I’ve never been interested in simply copying them. The goal has always been to learn from the past and create something that feels like it could belong there, without pretending it actually came from there.To me, that’s exactly what this bandanna is: a respectful nod to history, but an original design with its own story to tell.
